The Borough continues to move forward with several projects aimed at improving water quality and reducing TTHM levels in our system.

  • Automatic Hydrant Flushers – The newest flushers have been running for about two weeks. We will be adjusting their flow rates and run times to maximize effectiveness.

  • Potassium Permanganate Pump Relocation – We are waiting on permit approval from the PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to move the pump closer to the river intake. This is the primary method we plan to use to reduce TTHM levels. Until this permit is approved, our ability to make further changes is limited.

  • Tank Mixers – We are in the process of purchasing mixers for our storage tanks, which also require DEP permit approval before installation.

  • Water Line Replacements – We are in the planning and funding phase for replacing aging water lines, with priority given to areas showing the highest TTHM levels. We have applied for several grants to help offset costs. For reference, replacing just 2,600 linear feet of line is estimated at $620,000.

It’s important to note that until these major system changes are in place, the Borough may experience additional TTHM exceedances, particularly in the summer months when higher temperatures naturally contribute to elevated TTHM levels.

The Borough remains committed to replacing nearly century-old lines while keeping costs as low as possible for our community. That’s why we’ve aggressively pursued grant funding and taken interim steps, like flushing and system adjustments, while awaiting state approvals.

We will continue to update residents as these projects move forward.
