The Borough of Tarentum is pleased to announce that the 2026 Proposed Budget and accompanying Budget Message are now available for public review. Residents are encouraged to explore the document to learn more about the Borough’s financial planning, rate structure, and major priorities for the coming year.

2026 Budget Highlights

The 2026 budget reflects Tarentum’s commitment to responsible fiscal management, long-term infrastructure planning, and the continued delivery of full-service municipal operations. Key highlights include:

  • No property tax increase for 2026, maintaining Tarentum’s standing as one of the lowest-taxed full-service communities in Allegheny County.

  • Continuation of the five-year electric stabilization plan, including a modest 5% rate adjustment to offset rising wholesale energy and capacity costs across the PJM market.

  • A freeze on residential water rates, made possible through recent grants, improved operations, and efficiency upgrades at the Water Plant.

  • Gradual rate adjustments for large-meter users to improve long-term fairness and align costs with actual system impacts.

  • A $1 monthly increase in garbage and recycling services, reflecting higher disposal and collection costs under regional contracts.

  • Sustained investment in major infrastructure, including upcoming water plant, electrical, and mechanical upgrades, leak-detection expansion, CRM improvements, and ongoing riverfront planning.

  • Balanced, forward-looking financial strategy, designed to reduce reliance on the Electric Fund for general operations and protect long-term fiscal stability.

The 2026 budget continues Tarentum’s deliberate and transparent financial approach to managing rising costs, planning responsibly for the future, and protecting affordability for residents.
