Brackenridge and Tarentum Announce Shared Policing Services

Borough officials from Brackenridge and Tarentum signed an intergovernmental agreement today for shared Police Services between the two communities. The joint contract marks a significant stride towards innovative policing and community safety for the region. Through the sharing of resources, expertise, and knowledge, Brackenridge and Tarentum are uniquely positioned to address their communities’ complex and changing needs.

“Today’s announcement marks a significant step in our ongoing commitment to ensure public safety and effective law enforcement in both our communities,” said Chief William Vakulick of the Tarentum Borough Police Department. “By collaborating, we can more effectively address shared challenges, improve emergency response times, and foster greater trust between our department and the communities we serve.”

The contract encompasses a wide range of policing services, from patrols and investigations to training and community initiatives aligned underneath Tarentum Borough. Brackenridge will reimburse Tarentum monthly for the cost of three officers for an initial contract length of five years. By leveraging the Brackenridge officer’s knowledge and resources, Tarentum and Brackenridge will reap the benefits of increased efficiencies, streamlined services, and enhanced law enforcement capabilities.

“This partnership not only strengthens our ability to serve our communities but also paves the way for a new era of policing,” stated Tim Connelly, President of Brackenridge Borough. “The sharing of knowledge, skills, and resources will empower the Tarentum Police Department, enhance public safety, and foster stronger community relationships.

The implementation of this joint policing agreement is expected to begin on August 1, 2023.
