The Borough of Tarentum is committed to ensuring the safety and accessibility of our streets for all residents, visitors, and emergency vehicles.

Effective immediately and for the next 45 days, the yellow restricted curb area at the intersection of East Street and West 10th is designated as a Towing Zone. This temporary measure is necessary to enhance traffic safety and ensure that vehicles can safely pass and turn at this busy intersection. This area is already a restricted no-parking zone, but vehicles have been parking in violation of the regulations, creating serious safety concerns. Vehicles parked in this area will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Temporary signage has been posted, and the Police Department will be enforcing this regulation.

Looking Ahead: Potential Ordinance Change

The Borough is currently drafting a proposed ordinance change for Council to discuss at an upcoming meeting. This change would make the towing zone designation at this intersection permanent. Council will consider the draft ordinance in January, with the potential for adoption in February. Your feedback on this issue is welcome and encouraged.

A Reminder About General Parking and Traffic Regulations

We want to take this opportunity to remind everyone of a few key parking and traffic rules to keep our streets safe and accessible:

  1. No Parking in Restricted Zones: Areas marked with yellow curbs or signage indicating no parking must remain clear at all times. These restrictions are often in place to allow large vehicles, such as fire trucks and PAT buses, to maneuver safely.

  2. Intersection and Corner Clearance: Vehicles must not park too close to intersections or corners. Obstructing these areas can make it difficult for emergency vehicles to navigate, delay response times, and compromise public safety.

  3. Follow All Posted Signs: Always adhere to posted parking signs, time limits, and restrictions to avoid fines or towing.

  4. Be Considerate of Emergency Vehicle Access: Clear streets and intersections are vital for fire trucks, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles to reach their destinations without delay.

The Borough appreciates your cooperation in adhering to these regulations to keep our streets safe and accessible for everyone.
