Tarentum Borough is now accepting applications for our Junior Council Person (JCP) seat for the upcoming school year. This is a unique opportunity for a local high school student to take an active role in Borough government, gain leadership experience, and help shape the future of our community.

Serving as a Junior Council Person offers students a meaningful, hands-on introduction to public service. Participants:
Attend monthly Borough Council meetings and learn how local decisions are made
Gain real-world experience in civic leadership, budgeting, public works, police, and community development
Build public speaking, problem-solving, and policy skills
Strengthen college, scholarship, or career applications
Have a direct voice in community issues that impact youth and families
Work alongside elected officials and Borough leadership on real projects
Learn how municipal government operates from the inside out
This is an ideal opportunity for students interested in government, law, public policy, communications, or community service.
Eligibility
To qualify, students must:
Be a resident of Tarentum Borough
Be a current high school Sophomore, Junior, or Senior (or equivalent for homeschooled students)
Be available to attend Borough Council meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM
Be willing to take the Borough’s Oath of Office
Serve for either a full term (September–June) or half term (September–December or January–June)

A one-page essay explaining why they would be an excellent candidate
