It’s no secret that Tarentum Borough’s water system has faced challenges due to its age and deferred maintenance. What you might not know is the tremendous work that has been happening over the last two years to develop and implement a multi-year plan for upgrades and improvements.

Today, we took another big step forward with the arrival of noise loggers to enhance our leak detection efforts. In the coming weeks, multiple pressure sensors will be deployed throughout the system. Combined with our recently upgraded SCADA system and GIS, we now have a digital map of our water infrastructure, allowing us to proactively detect and repair leaks and other issues like never before.

But we’re not stopping there! We are developing a multi-year distribution pipe replacement strategy to ensure long-term improvements. Plus, over the next 24 months, the $4 million in grants we’ve secured will be put to work on:
✅ New pumps
✅ Smart chemical feeders
✅ Mechanical system upgrades
✅ A new 1-million-gallon tank at the water plant

This marks the first comprehensive water system plan in Tarentum’s history since its inception in the 1920s. We’re committed to modernizing our infrastructure and ensuring clean, reliable water for generations to come. Stay tuned for more updates!
