Dear Resident:
Tarentum Borough Council has voted to temporarily suspend electric shutoffs for the month of November in response to the ongoing federal government shutdown, Pennsylvania’s state budget impasse, and the Governor’s recent agreement with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) and statewide utility providers.
Tarentum Borough operates a community-owned electric utility, run by and for our residents. We understand that many households are facing real hardship as paychecks and assistance programs are disrupted. To help our neighbors during this unprecedented period, the Borough will not conduct electric service shutoffs during November.
If you have already received a November shutoff notice, you may disregard it. No electric shutoffs will occur during this suspension period.
Please note that this is not a forgiveness of payment. All utility bills will remain due, and account balances will continue to accrue. We strongly encourage residents to pay what they can during this time to prevent larger balances or difficulty once regular operations resume in December.
Unfortunately, extending this suspension beyond November would create financial uncertainty for the Borough and could impact essential services. We are hopeful that both the federal and state governments will resolve their respective impasses soon, allowing normal assistance programs such as LIHEAP to resume.
Thank you for your understanding, responsibility, and continued partnership in keeping Tarentum’s community-run utility strong.
Sincerely,
Tarentum Borough
